Perplexity 2.98.0 is the Android app of Perplexity, the AI search engine from Perplexity AI. You ask a question by typing or by voice, and the app replies with a short written answer and a list of the sources it used. You can download Perplexity for Android for free from Google Play.
A normal search on a phone often means opening four or five pages, closing pop-ups and scrolling to find one sentence. Perplexity does that reading for you: it searches the web, pulls the relevant parts from several pages and writes a compact answer with numbered citations you can tap. That makes it useful for questions like how long a passport renewal usually takes in your country, what the difference is between two phone plans or how a recipe changes if you replace one ingredient. You can keep asking in the same thread, and it remembers what you were talking about. The service runs on the company's servers, so the app itself is fairly small and the answers do not depend on how powerful your phone is, only on the connection.
Questions go to Perplexity's servers. Keep passwords, bank details and personal data of other people out of your queries. Install only the official app from Google Play; lookalike "AI search" apps with similar icons often exist to sell subscriptions or show aggressive ads. Summaries can still misrepresent a source, so read the cited page when the detail matters.
What changed in recent versions is listed in the official changelog, and plans are described on perplexity.ai.
